Restaurant recommendation for Jerez

I am always a bit wary about restaurants that are featuring on the city maps you receive in the hotel or tourist office. My experience is that they are either very commercial, too touristic or desperate for tourists because locals don’t go there anymore. So when the hotel receptionist pointed me at Albala on the map for a good lunch, my expectations were not high.

Boy was I wrong. Albala has truly been a nice discovery. Their dishes went from great to “wow taste this”. Some of the dishes were Michelin-star quality.

The restaurant (address: Resd. Valdespino 6, Jerez) is just outside the historical city center of Jerez, but close to Bodegas Sandeman and the Fundación Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre (Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art). This location makes it ideal to combine a visit to the sherry bodega or horse riding school with a  lunch at Albala.

Best to make a reservation because it can be quite busy. Ask for the suggestions as well (sugerenciones) and leave room for one of their great deserts.
